From wedding venue selection, to dress design, to even the crazy games you’ll play at your reception, there are so many unique elements to a wedding in 2023.

In this article we’ll walk you through 5 of the biggest trends in weddings in 2023 and give you a few ideas of how you may be able to incorporate them into your own wedding day plans.

Midday Ceremonies

We all have been to eight, ten, and even twelve hour long wedding days that have been an all out marathon of fun, but also can be extremely exhausting. In the beginning of the 20th century it was actually quite common for wedding ceremonies to be in the morning, and the reception not until the evening. With a whole afternoon in the middle to rest and relax maybe they were on to something.

The extra time also allows for a catered lunch and other additional laid back activities to be planned and attended if desired by your guests. It also takes the rush and stress of running as fast as you can from the ceremony to the pictures to the cocktail hour all within a relatively short period of time.

Whatever you decide when it comes to the wedding ceremony time, be sure that it is clearly communicated to all guests and vendors since an early or midday ceremony is unique in today’s modern wedding day scene.

Wedding Maximalism

We’ve all heard of minimalism when it comes to lifestyle, living choices, and even on your wedding day. Flip this idea on its head and now you have wedding maximalism. Perhaps this is just a fancy way of saying you are gonna have a full on bougie crazy wedding party, or perhaps it’s not, you decide.

This kind of style includes multiple styles, patterns, textures, and color schemes all coordinated to make a lasting impact on your wedding day and make it truly special and memorable. This could be applied to just the ceremony if you wanted it to be extravagant in and of itself, or just the reception to focus on having a blow out party. If you wanted it could even apply to both. Just because maximum is a part of the name of this style doesn’t necessarily mean that everything is the most expensive or the most insanely unique idea ever had at a wedding. Sometimes it just means taking a traditional wedding idea and turning it up to 11 for fun.

Reception Outfit Changes

While this trend has been picking up steam the last few years, in 2023 the number of brides who have been changing their outfits for the reception has started to increase even more. The outfit change allows for additional freedom of movement on the dance floor as well as preserving your wedding ceremony dress to make sure no food or drink is spilled on it. Some wedding dresses you can purchase now even have an option of adding on a reception dress in the same style as the ceremony dress.

While this trend primarily applies to the bride, who's to say that this can’t be a fun and exciting experience that the entire couple shares? Wedding couples have used this trend to do matching sweatsuits, culturally significant outfits, and much much more.

Embracing this trend allows for an additional dynamic element to your wedding that all of your friends and family will be talking about for years to come.

Audio Guestbooks

The timeless tradition of guest books is a truly special aspect of the wedding day. All your loved ones can leave a note, paragraph, or even a whole page describing their love and admiration for the wedding couple on their once in a lifetime kind of day.

Being that the year is 2023 and technology continues to sprint forward at an incredible pace, there are a few new ways this timeless tradition can be brought into the modern era. One of them is the audio guestbook. A variety of companies have been popping up that offer what looks like an old rotary phone but actually allows guests to record a voice message and have it saved so the couple can listen to it at a later time.

While you don’t have to go with this specific audio guestbook idea, there are a variety of other methods you could explore to really make your guestbook set up one of a kind and truly distinguish your wedding day as your own.

Love Drunk & Blurry Photos

We have all seen on TikTok and Instagram how probably the blurry photo trend has become just in the last year or so. This trend has not only been a part of mainstream social media, but it has made its way down into the wedding photography scene. You need a skilled wedding photographer to know exactly how to capture these photos and ensure you are keeping that retro feel without losing any of the quality of the overall photograph.

One way to capture these types of photos well is to wait till night time and use flash as a means of getting that overall blurry feeling. This can help give the overall colors of the photo a more muted, soft, and even dreamlike quality which is definitely a special way of capturing some of your favorite wedding moments.
